✶ I spend more time with families before and after birth than traditional doula packages with unique offerings:

✶ 1:1 Sessions explore the emotional, spiritual, intuitive aspects of pregnancy. In these sessions, we are able to move beyond just talking about plans or comfort measures and instead practice fully embodying them using somatic and energetic tools and techniques.

✶ 3 month postpartum meeting to connect you with resources for parenting past the newborn stage and finding your new normal. We close our container and mark the end of our time together.

✶ A personalized birth vignette that powerfully captures a moment from your birth. Like this one.

The expertise and emotional comfort of a doula, but make it virtual! All support over phone, text and video for folks anywhere.

FAQ's

What is a doula?

Doulas provide non-medical support and companionship for birth, and other health events such as fertility, miscarriage, loss, abortion, and postpartum. A doula is a specialized member of your care team. People unsatisfied with thier birth or reproductive health experience report feeling uninformed, ignored, or out of control. Doulas receive special training to make sure their cleints are informed of all options, acknowledged and heard, and empowered to honor their choices. A doula is the only person on your care team who is able to be 100% focused on you and your experience. Doulas are there for the whole family, assuring everyone that they do not have to do their part alone. We help your support people be the best they can be.

What does doula support look like?

Birth: - We meet prenatally and build a deep understanding for what is important to you and your birth experience - Ongoing text and phone support - On call for your birth - Postpartum visit for processing your birth and help with postpartum transition Postpartum: - Daytime or overnight visits to help with childcare, meal prep, baby feeding, emotional support, really anything the family needs as they get used to life with a newborn Fertility, Loss, Abortion, Miscarriage, and all kinds of transitions: - Tailored to your unique experience - Can be regular and consistent meetings are you navigate your experience - I can help you find resources and create plans - I listen and help create space for you to connect to your body and your experience

What are the benefits of working with a doula?

- Less time in labor - Better infant outcomes - Higher rate of satisfaction with birth experience Like numbers? Research found that continuous labor support from a doula resulted in: - 39% decrease in the risk of Cesarean - 15% increase in the likelihood of a spontaneous vaginal birth - 10% decrease in the use of any medications for pain relief - Shorter labors by 41 minutes on average - 38% decrease in the baby’s risk of a low five minute Apgar score - 31% decrease in the risk of being dissatisfied with the birth experience (Read more about the evidence based benefits of doula care in childbirth here.) I refer to these words from Dr. Peter Levine to show the value and importance of a caring companion, such as a doula, during any life experience to avoid trauma. In this story, he was hit by a car and suggests that a stranger's calm presence helped him avoid PTSD after the incident: "Her noninvasive warmth, expressed in the calm tone of her voice, her gentle eyes, her touch and scent, gave me enough of a sense of safety and protection to allow my body to do what it needed to do and me to feel what I needed to feel. It soothed and helped to stablize my organism just enough so that I could experience the difficult sensations and take steps toward restoring my balance and equanimity." Doulas can create space for you to feel yourself fully, so you can move through your experience and find your own balance.

Are doulas just for home births?

No! I often hear people surprised to learn that doulas work in hospitals. I support all birth and all birthing locations. Having a doula at your hospital birth can be a huge benefit, as it will ensure you have consistent care even as staff shift changes occur.

I plan to get an epidural, could a doula still help me?

Yes! As a doula I fully support unmedicated and medicated births. A doula will make sure you're informed and prepared for birth and the postpartum period. Once you have the epidural, your doula will help you change positions to labor in bed using peanut balls and bed settings and making sure you are as comfortable as possible. Your doula will also be there for emotional support and guidance during pushing and in the postpartum period.

How do doulas work with my doctor, nurse, or midwife?

Doulas are respected members of birth care teams. My goal as a doula is to create alliance in your birth space. I model a calm and anchored energy that helps influence the energy of the room. To me, it is important to humanize everyone in the room and help us all remember that we are on the same team to best serve the birthing person. I advocate for client choices, but I leave my ego at the door and avoid creating division.

Why are you a doula?

I am passionate about doula support because I've seen the profound positive impacts firsthand. I believe the world will be a better place when all humans feel supported and loved as they move through major life events. Reproductive health is intimate. What happens with and through our bodies in these experiences matter. How we feel about these experiences matter. If this resonates with you, we might be a fit. And if we aren't, I will recommend the best doula for you based on what you've shared with me. I am dedicated to helping families find the best doula for them, so our initial meeting and matching are offered at no cost to you.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY

This doula is a true gift to babies and birthing people everywhere. I am Emmy's biggest fan and have recommended her to anyone on the path of conception, pregnancy, birth, or loss. She is wonderful.

★★★★★

JESSICA / BIRTH

Emmy is an absolutely amazing doula. She was recommended by a friend when I had to be readmitted the second night home from the hospital. She put my family at ease with her overnight care of our 4 day old son. Since then, she has been an incredible member of our "village" - we've learned that it takes a village! She is a calm, positive presence in our home and our son gets excited to see her. She takes the time to check-in with me and my husband. She has been a wonderful resource on a variety of topics. When he and I disagree on an issue (sleep training, feeding, swaddling, etc.) she has been thoughtful, impartial, and a great ally as we navigated new parenthood. If I could give her more stars I would!!

★★★★★

MEAGAN / POSTPARTUM

Emmy is a profound and compassionate healer with a medley of tools and teachings at her disposal. She has the unique ability to hone in on the roots of issues while also holding immense space for gentle navigation of healing.
